Decompression Therapy

Decompression therapy can help relieve the pain associated with bulging, herniated, or degenerating discs,  pinched nerves, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and more. Here at Serendipity, we offer a non-surgical method of spinal decompression that helps to relieve and correct low back and/or neck pain. Decompression therapy offers a high success rate in pain relief, especially when combined with chiropractic care. In fact, studies show success rates of 71-89%!

This is a poster on the wall of Serendipity that describes the benefits of decompression therapy.

How does decompression work?

The spine is gently stretched and relaxed intermittently in a controlled manner. The theory is that this process creates a negative intradiscal pressure, which benefits the spine by pulling the herniated or bulging disc material back into the disc, and promotes the passage of healing nutrients into the disc which fosters a better healing environment.

This is the decompression therapy table.

Does decompression hurt?

No. You will feel the stretch of the spine, but decompression therapy should not hurt. In fact, many patients are so relaxed that they fall asleep during their session!

However, if you have extensively injured discs, then you may feel a mild discomfort that will generally subside after a few visits.

This shows the decompression therapy table behind a cabinet that gives the patient some privacy.

How long does it take?

Each session lasts about 20 minutes. Most will start with 2-3 sessions per week, then decrease as their pain levels decrease.
